Books, Chocolate and Wine with Barbara White Daille

Ruth, thanks so much for inviting me back to visit!

I’m thrilled to be sharing my new release, One Week to Win Her Boss, book 2 in the Snowflake Valley series, as well as special news about book 1, Snowbound with Mr. Wrong.

One Week to Win Her Boss
a Snowflake Valley novel

The back cover copy:

Single mom Amber Barnett loves family, kids, Christmas…and unfortunately, her boss, confirmed bachelor Michael DeFranco. It's a crush she really needs to get over. Except, when she’s temporarily forced from her apartment, her only option is to stay at Michael’s private ski lodge, where she's the housekeeper. No problem. Her handsome boss rarely visits Snowflake Valley unexpectedly, plus he’s spending the holidays with his family. Or so she thinks…
A stormy Christmas Eve reunion leaves Michael seeking the solitude of his lodge, where he finds Amber in residence—and in trouble. Attempting to save her from her matchmaking family, he announces they’re a couple. His good deed backfires when they’re instantly included in each and every holiday event in town. So much for solitude.
Only the more time he spends with the beautiful, cheery brunette, the more he yearns to make things real between them. But he and Amber want different things, and Michael could never be the family man she's looking for.

Excerpt:

This excerpt comes very close to the beginning of the story, when Michael learns Amber has moved into his lodge – and doesn’t seem to be planning to leave any time soon!  lol

Amber couldn’t stay at the lodge with Michael here. But where else could she go?
Run home to her family? No way. She refused to let them know she wasn’t the independent, in-control single mom she wanted them to see.
She trusted all her friends but couldn’t ask for their help. Even if not a single one of them talked, everyone in Snowflake Valley would eventually know what had happened. One person would see something, another would overhear something else, and before she knew it, she would have no secrets from anyone, including Michael.
He took his seat again and looked at her. “Amber, what are you hiding from your family?”
She clamped her coffee mug in a death grip. “Who said I was hiding anything from them?” she asked cautiously.
“You did. You said not to tell your mom and sisters about the soup.”
“Oh. That.” She forced a laugh. “They would disown me for not making it from scratch. They’re all very into homemade food, homemade clothes…homemade everything. Callie, my oldest sister—you met her, she’s the one who’s a teacher. Anyway, she even has a recipe to make her own Christmas ornaments out of paste and flour.”
He eyed the tree in the corner of the room. Needing some Christmas cheer, she had turned the lights on when she’d come downstairs with Penny.
“Don’t worry,” she said, “I decorated it myself, and I promise you there’s not a handmade ornament in the bunch.”
“Hey, I already told you, I couldn’t care less. It’s your tree, not mine. If it were up to me, there wouldn’t be one in the house.”
“Scrooge,” she teased. Instant conversation stopper. No return smile from him, as she had hoped. No comment, either. Just a silent shrug.
She needed to keep him away from the topic of secrets…

From reviews for One Week to Win Her Boss:

“Personally, I wish the Barnett family would adopt me and invite me to their midst, and to Snowflake Valley, for every holiday of the year. My bet is you will feel the same.” – Amazon Customer

“…their story comes alive with believable, it could happen moments. That is what separates stories for me, whether I can really believe the reactions of the people involved… and One Week to Win Her Boss gives us a family, a town full of believable nice and not so nice people. This is a story that will go on my yearly re-read list – and I’d highly recommend it for any Romance reader.” – Keeper Bookshelf.

“Barbara White Daille writes about a magical setting. Snowflake Valley is beautiful and I loved the festive atmosphere of the place. She makes it come to life in a great vivid way. The holiday charm of the story is absolutely amazing. This perfect background for romance put a big smile on my face. One Week to Win Her Boss is captivating, sweet and endearing. It's a heartwarming entertaining story.” – Suze Lavender

“The part I liked the best was the anticipation of Amber Barnett and Michael DeFranco becoming a real couple. It was like opening a gift on Christmas day. You want to savor and cherish it because it is special and you do not want to spoil the memory. I want to read other books in this series and other books by Barbara White Daille.” - Lori, Amazon review

Books, Chocolate and Wine with Barbara White Daille

Ruth, thanks so much for inviting me back to share another of my books in the Hitching Post Hotel series.
Readers, all my books stand alone as far as each hero and heroine reaching their happy-ever-after by the end of their story!
A Rancher of Her Own - A Hitching Post Hotel book
A REASON TO STAY
Ranch manager Pete Brannigan has no interest in playing tour guide to a city slicker like Jane Garland. But spending a few days with the headstrong photographer is a small price to pay for everything her grandfather has given the single dad. Though Pete's drawn to Jane's sharp wit and striking beauty, he won't hurt his young children by falling for another woman who puts her career before family.
Jane's seen the world through her camera…and used it to shield her emotions. With Pete, she can finally let her guard down. If only he could do the same. Despite their powerful bond, Pete still can't trust Jane with his kids or his heart. But if he keeps pushing her away, he may ruin any chance their relationship has to develop.

Excerpt
This clip from the book comes very soon after Pete reluctantly takes on his new job of assisting Jane:
Arms crossed, Pete leaned against the doorframe and watched Jane go up the ladder. “You do realize that sticker on the step you just breezed past says not to climb any higher, right?”
“I need to find the best angle.” She sat astride the top of the ladder, one foot braced on the paint tray.
While he could and did admire the view, he didn’t think much at all of her position. “I’ll tell you what you’ll find if you’re not careful—your head cracked open after you fall into that tub.”
“Not your problem.”
“No. Not until I have to explain the situation to Jed.”
“Don’t worry—Grandpa won’t sue you. And if you’re that concerned, I’ll sign a waiver.” After a few clicks with her camera, she frowned and glanced toward the window near the head of the tub. “Can you move that curtain to one side?”
“It’s bright as day in here already.”
“The sun’s going down, though, and I want to catch the light streaming in across the bubbles.”
He’d called it right about her liking things just so. He flipped up the bottom of the curtain to loop it over the rod.
Again, she frowned. “Not exactly the effect I was looking for.”
“You really are a perfectionist, aren’t you?”
For a moment, her lips pressed into a tight, straight line. Then she smiled. “You ought to see my hospital corners when I make a bed.”
“Was that an offer?” The words slipped out of his mouth before he’d had a chance to think about the consequences. What was it about Jane that scrambled his brain?
She gave him a slow smile. “Cowboy, if I made you an offer, it would be perfectionistically clear.”
The image that brought to mind left him breathless. He turned and shoved the fabric across the rod, then stood looking through the window. One way or another, he needed to forget these thoughts he was having about her.
Or find out if he actually had seen that spark of interest earlier.
Reviews
“The second in The Hitching Post Hotel miniseries has Grandpa Jed once again exercising his matchmaking skills. This time, he’s going to need some help with this stubborn pair. This slow-burning romance with an antagonistic edge addresses love, loss and learning to forgive.”  – RT Book Reviews
“The second Hitching Post Hotel contemporary is an enjoyable ranch romance starring leads who expect their shaky relationship to fail before it can truly begin; as love is not enough.  Grandpa Jed and his young posse bring enchantment to the storyline.”
– Genre Go Round Reviews

Books, Chocolate and Wine with Barbara White Daille

A BIG SURPRISE—TIMES THREE!
The last time rodeo cowboy Tyler Buckham was in Cowboy Creek, he spent a steamy night with local beauty Shay O'Neill. Back in town for a quick visit, he's hoping they'll have another go-around before he heads for his next rodeo. But seeing Shay pregnant—with triplets!—leaves Tyler feeling as if his best horse has kicked him in the gut.
Shay swore she wouldn't fall for an unreliable cowboy, and Tyler's playboy past makes him even less likely to settle down. The whole town conspires to push them together, and Tyler insists he wants to do his duty by Shay and the triplets, but Shay knows she can't count on promises from a cowboy. Besides, Tyler never once mentioned the word love…

The Hitching Post’s dining room was crowded with Garland family members and hotel guests, yet the instant Tyler paused in the doorway, he spotted Shay.
She sat on the far side of the long center table reserved for the Garlands, half turned away from him as she talked with one of Jed’s granddaughters. He recognized the straight, wheat-blond hair that fell below her shoulders and felt like silk against his fingers. He knew when she looked his way he would see eyes one shade lighter than her green sweater. Her cheeks held a natural pink tint. Her lips curved in a soft smile.
Just looking at her from a distance made his pulse speed up and his jeans tighten.
She reached for a cloth napkin and unfolded it. As if she’d given a signal, the folks around him began heading toward the tables. The movement spurred him toward the vacant seat at her side before anyone else could grab it. As he slid onto the chair, she turned his way.
The smile stayed, but the light pink color drained from her cheeks. He saw her fingers clutch the napkin she had draped across her lap. And then he saw the rounded expanse of belly straining the knitted weave of her sweater.
She was extremely pregnant.
Thoughts of anticipated pleasure flew from his head. Words did, too, leaving him struggling for something to say.
Jed Garland had no such problem. “Shay, you remember Tyler, don’t you?”
She nodded.
 “I thought you might.”
Tyler couldn’t tear his eyes away from her. He also couldn’t miss hearing the satisfaction in the older man’s voice. What had brought that on? And why had Jed mentioned Shay’s invitation to lunch but said nothing about her condition? Of course, Jed—and everyone else at the Hitching Post—probably thought he and Shay were just passing acquaintances.
He tried for a casual smile. The one she gave him looked about as sincere as his felt.
Obviously, she’d met someone else since they were together last summer. Or she’d already been involved with the man when they’d had their fling. Either way, she wouldn’t want him hanging around, maybe bringing up their brief relationship in some conversation. As if he would.
The boys at the ranch back in Texas always said he needed to have “Love Ë‹em and leave Ë‹em” tattooed across his chest. That didn’t mean he’d make a public announcement about a one-night stand. Shay couldn’t know that, but you would think she’d at least give him the benefit of the doubt.

Snowbound with Mr. Wrong

Worst. Day. Ever.

After Lyssa Barnett’s sister tricks her into reprising her role at Snowflake Valley's annual children's party, she doesn’t think anything can be worse than squeezing into her too-small elf costume. Then tall, dark, and way too handsome Nick Tavlock shows up to play Santa…and an unexpected storm leaves them snowbound in the isolated lodge.

The last thing Nick wants is to spend a cozy Christmas Eve with a trio of kids and the woman who dumped him. But as much as Lyssa frustrates him, he can't stop thinking about her. And soon, he's fighting very un-Santa-like thoughts of kissing a certain sexy Miss Elf under the mistletoe. As Nick starts to fall for Lyssa all over again, he knows it will take nothing short of a miracle to have Lyssa in his arms on Christmas Day.

“Miss Elf! Miss Elf!”

Lyssa’s arrival hadn’t gone unnoticed by the children in the room. She smiled and returned the greetings with her own cheery hellos.

The youngest kids gazed at her with wonderment in their eyes. The older ones gave smug grins at knowing her true identity. The adults smiled and pretended not to see her at all.

Suddenly, the loudest noise she’d heard yet cut through the din. The bellow came from a sturdy, well-padded individual with a white beard and a fur-trimmed red suit, who shouted his familiar “Ho, ho, ho.”

No, no, no, Lyssa chanted silently. It can’t be.

But that voice…she could have picked that voice out from among any Santas, anywhere. Her vision blurred, filling with twinkling lights though she wasn’t anywhere near the Christmas tree. She knew her face had turned as white as Santa’s fake beard.

No wonder Amber had wanted a moment alone with Miss Elf. Amber always rounded up the volunteers for the Christmas party. She knew exactly who was inside that Santa suit. The man Lyssa had met and played assistant to at last year’s party. The man she didn’t want to be near now.

Instead, she felt herself towed along by her pintsized escorts, aided by the sea of children flowing around all three of them. With growing horror, she saw her every reluctant but inevitable step bringing her closer to Santa Claus, the jolly old elf she’d split up with this summer. The one she had hoped never to see again.

The man who—no matter what fibs she’d told Amber—had well and truly broken her heart.
